Costa Rica Minority Travelers

A majority of the Costa Rican population is of Spanish European ancestry—around 94% identify as white or mestizo . According to most ticos, Nicaraguans are the source of the increase in crime and poverty in Costa Rica. Nicaraguans tend to have darker skin than ticos, thus those with darker skin are more likely to face discrimination.
