Agriculture is a major part of the livelihood of Costa Rica. The export of crops is an important part of the economy, and
there is a plethora of opportunities for involvement in this industry.

economic and environmental groups and encourage community self-sufficiency. 6-weeks. Housing US$90 per month. Food US$3 per
day. Registration US$160 per person.
- uVolunteer (Volunteer Costa Rica), Apartado 130-4250, San Ramon, Alajuela, Costa Rica (☎2447 6856; www.uvolunteer.org). Strives to create a sustainable, conservative method of farming that is realistic for Costa Rican farming
communities. Volunteers will work on many different projects on the farm in Perez Zeledon, 3hr. south of San José and can
work from 2 weeks (US$780) to 12 weeks (US$2180) on the farm.
- World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF), P.O. Box 2154, Winslow, Buckingham, MK18 3WS, England, UK (www.wwoof.org). A network that connects volunteers with organic
farms around the world, including Costa Rica. Promotes sustainable, organic farming by providing travelers with information
on farms that will host them for free. Membership fee (US$16) to receive a book of host farms from which to choose.
