The towns along Morocco’s Atlantic coast are more laid-back than their conservative cousins in the interior. Men and women alike sunbathe, swim, and surf. The west coast contains Morocco’s industrial boom towns—Casablanca, the country’s commercial center, and Rabat, its political capital—which, while very much part of the modern country, are best avoided by travelers with limited itineraries. If you’re looking to relax by the sea, your best bets are smaller, more tranquil coastal cities, like Essaouira and Asilah.
