Hospitals
Italy’s medical system is socialized, so all public hospitals offer free emergency care (including ambulance service) and
may only charge a minimal amount for non-emergency treatment, regardless of citizenship. However, this also means that they
tend to be crowded, slow, often without English-speaking doctors, and may require extended waits for appropriate treatment.
They also do not allow choice of physician or facilities. Consult your insurance company for accepted private hospitals. two
private clinics and one public hospital are listed below.
- International Medical Center, V. Firenze 47 (24hr. ☎06 48 82 371;

public hospital in Rome. No cost for emergency treatment; approximately
€25 for treatment of non-emergencies. Open 24hr.

- The Blood Of The Romans.
When it is hot and humid outside, mosquitoes swarm Rome. While the
nasty little buggers love feasting upon foreign blood, Romans seem to
avoid the pestilent attacks. Consequently, insect repellents are
extremely overpriced in the city. If you are prone to allergic
reactions, bring antihistamine cream and bug spray.
