A lush tropical crown atop the vast, arid interior, the winterless Top End enjoys perpetually warm weather. In the Dry, backpack-toting pilgrims descend on Darwin and use this island of civilization as a base to explore the region’s prime natural wonders— Kakadu, Litchfield, and Nitmiluk National Parks. During the Wet, the trickle of travelers who brave this monsoon season are treated to biblical rains and surging waterfalls. Eternal summer has its drawbacks, however; the heat can get overwhelming, and mosquitoes enjoy the tropical climates, too.
For 52 years, we have published the world’s favorite budget travel guides, written entirely by students and updated every year. With pen and notebook in hand and a few changes of underwear stuffed in our backpacks, we spend months roaming the globe in search of travel bargains.
