The UnicoNapoliticket
(☎081 55 13 109
www.napolipass.it) is valid for all modes of tranportation in the city. Tickets come in three varieties: 90min. (€1.10), full-day (€3.10), and weekend (€2.60) and can be bought at newsstands and tabaccherie. All regional buses and trains are included in the UnicoCampania system (
www.unicocampania.it). Prices depend on the zone of your destination. (
Public bus lines crisscross the city; most accommodations and tourist offices provide maps. Most buses run from 6:30am to just before midnight. R1 runs from P. Bovio to Vomero, while R2 connects the train station at P. Garibaldi to P. Municipio along C. Umberto I. Cleverly-named 3S connects the three stations: the airport, train station, and the ferry port at Molo Beverello.
Currently, the Metro (☎800 56 88 66 www.metro.na.it) is useful for reaching far-away destinations (such as P. Cavour, Montesanto, P. Amedeo, or Mergellina) but not for exploring the centro, though it is being expanded. Trains run 6am-11pm. The lines extend west from P. Garibaldi to Pozzuoli from underground at Stazione Centrale. Line 1 stops at Piazza Cavour (Museo Nazionale), Piazza Amedeo (from which the funicular runs to Vomero), and Mergeilina. Transfer at P. Cavour for Line 2 to P. Dante and P. Medaglie d'Oro.
Three funicular lines connect the lower city to elevated Vomero: Centrale runs from V. Toledo to P. Fuga; Montesanto from P. Montesanto to V. Morghen; and Chiaia from V. del Parco Margherita to C. Cimarosa. Centrale and Cimarosa make intermittent stops at C. Vittorio Emanuele. (
A number of companies operate the city's white taxis (☎081 88 88; 081 570 70 70; 081 55 60 202; 081 55 15 151). Only take official, licensed taxis with meters and always ask about prices upfront; even recognized companies have been known to charge suspiciously high rates. Meters start at €3 Monday through Saturday 7am-8pm, €5.50 Sunday and nights. Each additional 65m costs €0.05. There may also be surcharges for luggage. Fees double for trips beyond city limits.
