Naples (Napoli) Nightlife

The discos in Naples may be few and far between—literally—but the city is not without after-hours activity. Its centro and fashionable outer neighborhoods bustle with bars and, better yet, students in piazze drinking cheap beer from—where else?—local pizza joints. Piazza Gesù Nuovo and Piazza Duomo are filled with students, some of whom firmly believe in the healing power of certain botanicals, but the most popular piazza, known as Kesté, is also one of the more obscure to outsiders. The environs of Piazza del Martiri contain tons of bars, though unlike those in the previous piazze, the ones here are less convenience store and more the Ritz. Some nightclubs call the place home as well, though they're virtually all closed in July and August. Piazza Bellini is relaxed and bookish, with computers and Wi-Fi replacing the DJ booth and bass. If a short funicular or longer Metro ride is in the cards, you could join the young and hip in Vomero's Piazza Vanvitelli. Avoid the area around Stazione Centrale, it is very sketchy at night.
