New York City:

Home Exchange And Rental

For short stays, home exchange and rental can be cost-effective options, particularly for families with children. Home rentals are much more expensive than exchanges, although they are cheaper than an extended stay at a comparably serviced hotel. In New York, most home exchanges and rentals come with kitchen, cleaning service, telephones, and TV. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to arrange an exchange or rental for longer than one month. Rentals and exchanges are organized by the following services:

  • HomeExchange.com, P.O. Box 30085 (☎800-877-8723; www.homeexchange.com), Santa Barbara, CA 93130.
  • The Invented City: International Home Exchange, 41 Sutter St. (☎800-788-2489 in the US, 415-252-1141 elsewhere; www.invented-city.com), Ste. 1090, San Francisco, CA 94104. For $50, your offer is listed in a catalog and you have access to a database of thousands of homes for exchange.
