Merchant’S House Museum. This three-floor museum, located in the townhouse of well-off merchant Seabury Tredwell, offers a fascniating look into the daily life of New York’s 19th-century elite. Changing exhibits showcase furniture, clothing, and other belongings of the Tredwell family. It’s the city’s only family home that’s been preserved—inside and out—from the period. Rumor has it that the house is haunted by various members of the Tredwell family. Enjoy the outdoor garden in good weather. (29 E 4th St., between Lafayette Ave. and the Bowery.
