There are 13 well-manicured city golf courses. Most are found in the Bronx or Queens, such as Pelham Bay Park (☎718-885-1258), Van Cortlandt Park (☎718-543-4595), and Forest Park (☎718-296-0999). Greens fees are approximately $12-29 for NYC residents and $17-35 for non-NYC residents, depending on time of day and week. Reserve at least one week in advance for summer weekends. Long Island is home to some of the country’s best public courses; Bethpage (☎516-249-7000) also features five top-notch ones. The Black course hosted the 2002 U.S. Open won by Tiger Woods. On the eastern tip of Long Island is Montauk Downs (☎631-668-5000), which is among the country’s top 50 public courses.
