Each of the rinks in the city has its own character. Nearly all have lockers, skate rentals, and a snack bar.

Skating Rink, Rockefeller Center (☎212-332-7654; www.therinkatrockcenter.com). S B, D, F, V to 47th-50th St./Rockefeller Center/Ave. of the Americas (6th Ave.). One of the best 1st-date options in a city full of romantic possibilities. Skate rental $7. Admission M-Th $9, children and seniors $7; F-Su and holidays $13/8. Private lessons available from $30 per person per 30min. Especially beautiful in the holiday season, when the Christmas tree is lit in the plaza. Open Oct.-Apr. Check website for hours.
Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers (☎212-336-6100), at W 21st St. and the Hudson River. See for directions. Learn to skate or practice on 1 of the 2 full-sized indoor Olympic ice rinks. Adults $12.50, children under 13 and seniors $10; free June Su 1-3:50pm. Skate rentals $7, helmet $3.75. Hockey and figure skating classes held throughout the year, $462-517. Open mid-June to Aug. Trump Wollman Rink (☎212-439-6900; www.wollmanskatingrink.com). See for directions. Located in a particularly scenic section of Central Park, near 64th St. M-F $9.50, Sa-Su $12; children $4.75/5. Skate rental $5. Open late Oct.-Apr. M-Tu 10am-2:30pm, W-Th 10am-10pm, F-Sa 10am-11pm, Su 10am-9pm.
