There are many in-line skate rental locations throughout the city. For low prices and convenience, Blades (☎212-996-1644) has three stores in the Metropolitan area. (Flat rate $20; includes all protective gear. $200 deposit or credit is required. Open M-Sa 11am-8pm, Su 11am-6pm.) Blades also has various sister stores that feature the same prices and conditions— Peck and Goodie Skates, 917 Eighth Ave., between 54th and 55th St. (☎212-246-6123), will also hold your shoes while you whiz past your favorite New York sights. They also offer private lessons for a fee of $40 per hr. (Open M-Sa 10am-8pm, Su 10am-6pm.) Good places to skate in the city include Battery Park, West St. between Christopher to Horatio St., Chelsea Piers, and East River Promenade between 60th and 81st St. Central Park has several roller zones including the Outer Loop, a slalom course near Tavern on the Green.
