add to your hipster wardrobe.
- Beacon’s Closet, 88 N 11th St. (☎718-486-0816). S L to Bedford Ave. A warehouse-like space with an enormous selection of vintage clothing. Almost everything is less than $20.
Shirts $7-15. Shoes $10-20. Belts $5-10. The huge selection of women’s and men’s clothing includes some designer labels. Rotating
specials are 50% off. Clothes bought for cash or store credit up to 30min. before closing. Open M-F noon-9pm, Sa-Su 11am-8pm.
The Park Slope location at 220 5th Ave. is a more manageable size.
- Girdle Company, 218 Bedford Ave., at N 5th St. S L to Bedford Ave. A cavernous collective of small retail spaces, including Verb Cafe (☎718-599-0977); Hello, Beautiful Salon (☎718-387-4732); and Earwax, a music store (☎718-486-3771). The fantastic Spoonbill Sugartown Bookstore (☎718-387-7322; www.spoonbillbooks.com), specializing in art and design books, holds readings and book parties about once a month. Internet Garage (☎718-486-0059) charges $0.16 per min. for Internet.
- KCDC, 90 N 11th St. (☎718-387-9006; www.kcdcskateshop.com), between Berry St. and Wythe Ave. S L to Bedford Ave. At first glance, this resembles a typical skate shop, selling t-shirts ($15-30), shoes ($50-150), and videos
($10-30). Then you notice the skater art gallery and the half pipe on the premises. To use the half pipe, you must be over
18 and a member of Skate Parks of America ($10 daily, $125 annual membership; join at KCDC; cash only). Open M-Sa noon-8pm,
Su noon-7pm.
- Ugly Luggage, 214 Bedford Ave. (☎718-384-0724), at N 5th St. S L to Bedford Ave. A tiny vintage furniture store full of retro accessories, like old black-and-white photos ($1), retro light-up
globe ($80), and 60s juice glasses (set of 4; $24). There’s always a working typewriter in stock. Open M-F 1-8pm, Sa-Su 1-6pm.
