Honolulu International Airport ( HNL; ☎808-836-6413; www.honoluluairport.com) is off the Airport exit from H-1, 9 mi. west of Waikiki. The airport is also accessible via Ala Moana Boulevard. Take Ala Moana west until it becomes Nimitz Highway and continue west. Turn left into the airport after the Roger’s Blvd. intersection underneath H-1. TheBus #8, 19, and 20 make three stops: the Interisland Terminal, Lobby 4, and Lobby 7. TheBus #20 is the Waikiki bus; travelers coming from other parts of the island will have to change at the Nimitz Hwy. stop.
The only ATM before security is in the American Airlines office in the main terminal next to the H-2 baggage carousel on the ground level. Currency exchange services are available behind all international gates in the main terminal. Taxis and shuttles leave from the median strip outside the baggage claim. Taxis to Waikiki run around $25-30. A cheaper option is Reliable Shuttle (☎808-924-9292), which runs between the airport and hotels in Waikiki and Honolulu, as well as the USS Arizona Memorial, for about $10. Make reservations at least one day in advance. Shuttles run 24hr., most between 6am and 10pm.
