Flights from the neighboring islands start around $120 round-trip, although some cost as much as $200, and prices vary depending on the season. Maui’s major airport is Kahului International Airport (OGG), in Kahului in Central Maui. International and interisland carriers fly to Kahului, and their flight schedules change constantly. Hawaiian Airlines (☎800-367-5320; www.hawaiianair.com) flies to Hilo, the Big Island; Honolulu, Oahu; Hoolehua, Molokai; Kona, the Big Island; Lanai City, Lanai; and Lihue, Kauai. Pacific Wings (☎808-873-0877 or 888-575-4546; www.pacificwings.com) offers daily service to Hana, Maui; Honolulu, Oahu; Hoolehua, Molokai; Kamuela, the Big Island; Kona, the Big Island; the Kalaupapa Peninsula, Molokai; and Lanai City, Lanai. There are two other airports on Maui: Hana Airport (HNM), on Maui’s east coast, which sees a lot of commuter flights and unscheduled air traffic; and Kapalua Airport (JHM), which handles only prop planes and commuter flights.
The Hawaii Superferry (☎877-443-3779; www.hawaiisuperferry.com) has daily service from Kahului, Maui to Honolulu, Oahu (3hr.; daily 11am, M, W, F, Sa 8pm; prices vary depending on fuel surcharge and season). The Molokai Princess (☎808-667-6165 or 800-275-6969; www.molokaiferry.com) makes daily trips between Maui and Molokai. It leaves from Lahaina Harbor (90min.; daily 6pm, M-Sa 7:15am; one-way $40, ages 4-12 $20). Expeditions (☎808-661-3756 or 800-695-2624) runs ferries from Lahaina Harbor to Lanai (45min.; 5 per day 6:45am-5:45pm; one-way $25, children $20).
The most convenient way to get around Maui is by renting a car. However, the new Maui Bus (☎808-871-4838; www.mauicounty.gov/bus) has begun service on the island. The Maui Bus service has nine routes funded by the county of Maui; these routes provide service in and between Central, West, South, and Upcountry Maui communities.
