Maui Transportation

• Bus: MauiBus Service is available between Central, South, West, and Upcountry Maui. On West Maui, buses make the following stops: Maalaea Harbor, Wharf Cinema Center, Papalaua St., Lahaina Cannery Mall, Whalers Village in Kaanapali, Kahana, Napili, and Kapalua. In Lahaina take the Kaanapali Islander from Lahaina Cannery Mall to Whalers Village where you can then pick up the Napili Islander to go all the way north to Kahana, Napili, and Kapalua. All routes are $1 one-way and run once an hour. Call the Maui Transit Office (☎808-270-7511) or check www.mauicounty.gov/bus.
• Ferry: An easy and inexpensive way to reach Maui’s neighboring islands is by ferry out of Lahaina Harbor. The Molokai Princess (☎808-667-6165 or 866-307-6524; www.molokaiferry.com) makes daily trips to Molokai. For more information, The Expeditions Ferry (☎808-661-3756 or 800-695-2624; www.go-lanai.com.) sails to Manele Harbor on Lanai (45min.; 5 per day 6:45am-5:45pm; one-way $25, children $20) and back (5 per day 8am-6:45pm).
• Taxis: Although the town of Lahaina is pedestrian-friendly, cabs might come in handy for travelers staying slightly north or south of town. Call in advance to get a cab; they rarely search for passengers. Several taxi companies operate out of Lahaina, including Island Taxi (☎808-667-5656) until midnight, Paradise Taxi (☎808-661-4455), La-Taxi (☎808-661-4545), and AB Taxi (☎808-667-7575) all 24hr.
• Car Rental: Most national chains operate out of Kahului, near the airport, but some, like Enterprise, have branches near Lahaina or the Kapalua Airport.
• Mopeds: Cruising around Lahaina on a moped is an efficient and fun way to reach some of the best beaches in West Maui. Island Riders, 126 Hinau St. (☎808-661-9966), rents mopeds in addition to sports cars and Jeeps. $45 8am-5pm, $59 per 24hr.
• Bikes: Lahaina is more than manageable on 2 wheels. West Maui Cycles (☎808-661-9005) rents beach cruisers ($15 per day, $60 per week) and road bikes ($50/$200).
