South Australia Intercity Transportation

  • Flights: Kingscote Airport (KGC), 13km from the town of Kingscote at Cygnet River. The shuttle (☎04 2788 7575; $25) that runs to downtown Kingscote must be pre-booked. 4-5 arrivals per day from Adelaide on 2 airlines: Air South (☎1300 247 768; www.airsouth.com.au) and Regional Express (☎08 13 17 13; www.regionalexpress.com.au), which occasionally has good deals during the fall and winter.
  • Ferries: Kangaroo Island SeaLink (☎08 13 13 01; www.sealink.com.au), with offices in Victor Harbor and at the Cape Jervis ferry dock. Has a monopoly on ferry transport to Cape Jervis and KI, so prices are steep and discounts are hard to come by. Book very far in advance, especially during school holidays. Ferries (1hr.; 3-8 per day 8:30am-7:30pm; round-trip $80, ages 3-14 $44) cross the Backstairs Passage between Cape Jervis and Penneshaw. $2 discount each way with online booking. Fares with car (from $162) vary by size (the car’s, not yours). Departures depend on sea conditions.
