Although much of northern Queensland is picturesque, nothing compares to the Atherton Tablelands. Rolling hills meet unspoiled forests with hidden lakes, pockets of rainforest, and scattered waterfalls—all fringed by roaming herds of cattle and horses. Traveling northeast on the Kennedy Hwy., you’ll find the farming village of Mareeba and touristy Kuranda. The southern route via Gilles Hwy. passes through the township of Atherton and charming Yungaburra.
