Western Australia Food
Perth has received many accolades for its multicultural cuisine. Northbridge is full of Asian restaurants, particularly along
William St. Meanwhile, James St. takes you from Greece to Thailand and back again through China and Italy as you walk from
William St. towards Russel Sq. Mt. Lawley is also a good place to find cafes and restaurants. There is dining in the CBD,
but it’s generally either chains or posh places; if you’re on a budget, it’s not the best option. Grab meats and produce at
City Fresh Gourmet Deli, 375 William St. (☎08 9237 5659; open M-Sa 7am-8pm, Su 7am-7pm), or head to Woolworths in the Murray St. Mall directly across from the bus station (open M-Th 8am-7pm, F 8am-9pm, Sa 8am-5pm, Su noon-6pm). For cheap
pasta, cereals, and deli foods, elbow through the crowds at Kakulas Brothers Wholesale Importers, 183-187 William St. (Open M-F 8am-5:30pm, Sa 8am-5pm. Cash only.)
- Work It. With so much fine dining available around the corner of Lake St. and James St., it can be hard to choose. Go on a slow night
(Mondays for example) and let the hostesses fight for your business. At the very least you can expect to be offered a free
beer or glass of wine.
- Il Padrino, 198 William St. (☎08 9227 9065; www.ilpadrinocafe.com). Perth’s best pizza ($16-25), even complimented by Pope John Paul II. $13.50 pizza and pasta at lunch
Tu-F and dinner Tu. All pizzas $13 to take-away, all pasta $12.50 to take-away. Open Tu-F 11:30am-3pm and 5pm-late, Sa 5pm-late.

steel countertop in permanent marker!). Try the delicious sweet potato fritter with hummus and artichoke ($9.50). Open M-Th
