The easiest way to see the Southwest is by car; many sights are well off the bus routes, and public transportation is often inadequate or nonexistent. Once completely out of Perth, the 3hr. drive south toward Margaret River takes you past shoreline, cattle stations, and the occasional limestone quarry. Options do exist for those without cars. The Easy Rider Backpackers bus offers a three-month pass that covers service between most regional hostels as far as Albany. Transwa’s (☎1300 662 205) handy 28-day Southern Discovery Pass allows for travel in a one-way loop to most destinations in the region, including Albany, Esperance, and Kalgoorlie.
