Since the mid-19th century, the Parisian elite has flocked to the resorts and thalassotherapy centers (seaside health spas) in the villages along the Côte Fleurie, the northeastern coast of Lower Normandy. These days, tourists come from around the world to admire views of the ocean and to shop for regional delicacies like Camembert cheese and calvados (apple brandy). Because some of the smaller beach towns between Le Havre and Caen aren’t exciting enough to justify their tourist-town prices, hotels and hostels in either city make good budget bases; Bus Verts connections between Le Havre, Caen, Bayeux, and other coastal towns make daytrips a viable option.
For 52 years, we have published the world’s favorite budget travel guides, written entirely by students and updated every year. With pen and notebook in hand and a few changes of underwear stuffed in our backpacks, we spend months roaming the globe in search of travel bargains.
