Palaces, churches, and castle ruins hide among the rolling green hills of the forest, tucked away in tiny villages. The region is famous for its crafts, particularly glass-blowing. The glass produced here is prized throughout the world, especially the dark green Waldglas (forest glass). Every forest town seems to have its own Glashütte, and Bavarian tourist officials have designated a 250km long route from Passau through the park as the Glasstraße (Glass Road).
