Copenhagen (København) Festivals And Entertainment

Whether showcasing new cinematic pictures or entertaining musical acts, Copenhagen isn’t short on summer festivals. During the world-class Copenhagen Jazz Festival (☎3393 2013; www.festival.jazz.dk), the city teems with free outdoor concerts. Past performers have included Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, and Dizzy Gillespie. The city truly comes alive for the NatFilm Festival (☎3312 0005; www.natfilm.dk) during late March and early April. International and domestic releases compete for Danish distribution deals. Zulu Sommerbio (Summer Cinema; www.zulu.dk) holds free screenings in parks and squares across the city throughout July and August. Movies are normally shown in their original languages and accompanied by Danish subtitles.

  • Royal Theater, August Bournoville Pass. 1, (☎3369 6969) is home to the world-famous Royal Danish Ballet. The box office is just off the Konges Nytorv metro and sells same-day half-price tickets. Open M-Sa 10am-6pm. Tickets online at www.billetnet.dk.
  • Tivoli ticket office, Vesterbrog. 3, (☎3315 1012). Sells half-price tickets for the city’s theaters. Open daily mid-Apr. to mid-Sept. 11am-8pm; mid-Sept. to mid-Apr. 9am-5pm.
