Getting to the region by train is easy. Both Constance and Friedrichshafen have direct connections to many cities in southern Germany. Rail transport within the region requires long rides and occasionally tricky connections because no single route encircles the lake. The bright white boats of the BSB (Bodensee-Schiffs-Betriebe; Constance office ☎07531 28 13 98) and other ferries, known collectively as the Weiße Flotte, provide a calmer alternative. Ships leave every hour from Constance and Friedrichshafen for ports around the lake. The BodenseeErlebniskarte gives discounts on most transportation, sights, and tours. (www.bodensee-tourismus.com. €39-71 for 3 days, €49-89 per week.)
