London Knightsbridge And Belgravia
Besides a couple of pubs that are more like institutions, Knightsbridge is not the place to go for a low-key night of inexpensive drinking. If you’re going to go out on the town here, you might as well splurge and take your liquor with the celebrity and jet-setting crowds.
- Talbot, Little Chester St. Knightsbridge or Sloane Sq. This pub’s outdoor patio beckons many a London professional for lunch and after-work drinks. Cheerful, bright setting topped off with a superior wine list. Sandwiches £4-5. Traditional British entrees £6.50-8.50. Pitcher of Pimm’s and lemonade £10. Takeaway available. Open M-F 11am-11pm; outdoor seating open M-Th until 9pm, F until 10pm
- Wilton Arms, 71 Kinnerton St. Knightsbridge or Hyde Park Corner. Claiming to be Britain’s oldest Brewer, this refined pub actually encourages reading: bookshelves full of classic hardcover novels line the walls. Boozers and socializers won’t feel out of place, though, thanks to a friendly crowd and a good selection of lagers and bitters (from £2.70). Outdoor seating under beautiful hanging flower baskets in nice weather. Plasma screen shows major sporting events. Entrees include shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, and garlic battered chicken £6-7. Toasted sandwiches £3.30. Burgers £6. Open M-Sa 11am-11pm, Su noon-10:30pm. Kitchen open M-F noon-9:30pm, Sa noon-3pm
- Nags Head, 53 Kinnerton St. Hyde Park Corner or Knightsbridge. Head in through cascading flowers to this outstanding traditional pub. Model airplanes, Boston Red Sox gear (let it go, England: you lost the colonies), an eclectic collection of bronze beer mugs, and a couple antique fireplaces make this watering hole endearing. Sandwiches from £4.50. Entrees from £7. Open M-Sa 11am-11pm, Su noon-10:30pm
