Cape York is one of the last great wilderness frontiers in Australia; a forbidding and isolated Outback beckons adventurers to abandon civilization and make the journey of nearly 1000km to Australia’s tip. Accessible only via the Peninsula Developmental Road (unsealed), the route is peppered with small towns and roadhouses every few hundred kilometers. During the Wet (Dec.-Apr.), most of the roads are impassable; the only way to see the Cape is by flying over it or into one of the small airports on the coast. During the Dry, the trip is arduous but manageable with a 4WD, and the reward is being witness to some of the most beautiful, diverse, and untouched landscapes in the world.
