Late June through August is high season in Greece. Hotels, domatia, and nightlife are in full swing as the 38˚C (100˚F) sun blazes over ancient cities and young sun bathers. If the crowds and frantic pace of summer travel aren’t your style, consider visiting with the lighter crowds in May, early June, or September, when avid hikers can take advantage of the pleasant weather and unsullied trails in Northern and Central Greece. In ski areas like Kalavrita and Karpenisi, winter brings another high season. Accommodations and food are cheaper in the low season, but many sights, restaurants, and nightlife options have shorter hours or close altogether. Ferries, buses, and trains are particularly inconsistent during the low season.
