Greece Universities
Most university-level study-abroad programs are conducted in Greek, although many programs offer classes in English and lower-level
language courses. Those relatively fluent in Greek may find it cheaper to enroll directly in a university abroad, though getting
college credit may be more difficult. You can search www.studyabroad.com for various semester-abroad programs that meet your
criteria, including your desired location and focus of study. Most of the study programs based in Greece are located in highly
traveled areas, especially in Athens, on Crete, and in the Cyclades. Programs vary tremendously in expense, academic quality,
living conditions, and exposure to local culture and languages. The following is a sampling of organizations that can help
place students in university programs abroad or that have their own branch in Greece.

term; US$7510 for the fall or spring terms.

Boston, MA 02108 (☎617 742 7992). ACT offers the opportunity to study in Greece in a predominately Greek student environment. Foreign students choose to
enroll either for a term abroad or as an exchange student. Study abroad student fee starting at US$7950.
- Arcadia University for Education Abroad, 450 S. Easton Rd., Glenside 38 (☎866-927-2234; www.arcadia.edu/cea). Operates programs in Greece. Fall or spring term US$12,730; full year US$21,930.
- The Athens Centre, Archimidous 48, Athens 116 36 (☎21070 12 268; www.athenscentre.gr). Offers language, classics, poetry, and theater classes. Many universities also are affiliated with
the Athens Center. Semester courses €180-640; summer €1800-2200.
- College Year in Athens, P.O. Box 390890, Cambridge, MA 02139 (US ☎617-868-8200, GRC 21075 60 749; www.cyathens.org). Runs semester-long, full-year, and summer programs that focus on ancient Greek civilization,
East Mediterranean area studies, and modern Greek language for undergraduates. All courses taught in English. Summer programs
include intensive modern Greek instruction on Paros and a 3-week archaeology program on Crete or Santorini. Fall or spring

- Deree College, The American College of Greece, Gravias 6, Agia Paraskevi 153 42 (☎21060 09 800; www.acg.gr/deree). Bachelor’s degrees granted in a wide variety of subjects. Classes taught in English. Open to students
of all international backgrounds.
- University of Indianapolis Athens Campus, Syntagma Square, Athens 105 57 (☎21032 37 077; www.uindy.gr). Offers fall and spring semesters at the University of Indianapolis’s Athens branch. Provides students with
residential hall housing in Plaka. Also organizes summer study programs.
- Hellenic International Studies in the Arts (☎69460 87 430; www.hellenicinternational.org). Offers courses in painting and drawing, photography, writing, sculpture, and Cycladic culture,
among other arts. Semester courses US$10850; summer US$2050.
- Rutgers Study Abroad, 102 College Ave., New Brunswick, NJ 08901 (☎732-932-7787; studyabroad.rutgers.edu/program_greece.html). A 6-week program in Athens, the Peloponnese, Macedonia, and Crete focuses
on material culture and history. NJ residents US$4200; non-NJ residents US$5200.
