Greece Archaeological Digs
Students who find their way to Greece to study abroad often are those interested in classics and archaeology. The Archaeologic
Institute of America, 656 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02215 (☎617 353 9361; www.archaeological.org), puts out the annual Archaeological Fieldwork Opportunities Bulletin, which lists sites in Greece
and is available online at www.archaeological.org. Print editions of the bulletin cost US$20 and must be bought from the David
Brown Book Co., P.O. Box 511, Oakville, CT 06779 (☎800 791 9354; www.oxbowbooks.com). The Hellenic Ministry of Culture (www.culture.gr) maintains a complete list of archaeological sites
in Greece. Below is a list of organizations that can help you find an archaeological dig with participation opportunities.
- The American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Souidias 54, Athens 10676 (US ☎609-683-0800, 21072 36 313; www.ascsa.edu.gr). Since 1881, American graduate students and professors have flocked here to participate
in ongoing excavations of ancient sites, including Corinth and the ancient Athenian agora. A 6-week summer program (US$2950)
allows undergraduates to work at its sites and others. Visit the website to find a list of publications and links to other
archaeological programs.
- Archaeology Abroad, 31-34 Gordon Sq., London WC1H OPY, UK (☎20 85 37 08 49; www.britarch.ac.uk/archabroad). A magazine about archaeology that contains biannual bulletins with fieldwork opportunities.

- British School in Athens, O. Souidias 52, Athens 10676 (GRC ☎21072 10 974 or 21072 92 146; UK 20 7862 8732; www.bsa.gla.ac.uk). Conducts fieldwork annually. Courses for undergraduates, postgraduates,
and teachers also available. Recent work has been conducted at Athens, Delphi, and Pylos.
- Canadian Institute in Greece, Dion. Aiginitou 7, Athens 11528 (☎21072 232 01; www.cig-icg.gr). Focuses on archaeological fieldwork and research at various sites throughout Greece.
- German Archaeological Institute, Fidiou 1, Athens 10678 (☎21033 07 400; www.dainst.org). This research center offers an extensive archaeological library, publishes an annual journal, hosts lectures
and forums, and assists in excavations.
