The center of South Australia’s wine universe is 70km northeast of Adelaide in the Barossa Valley. Grapes from the Barossa region produce some of Australia’s best wines, particularly Shiraz. The Clare Valley, 45min. north of Barossa, is filled with smaller wineries that specialize in Rieslings and other cool-climate whites. For the budget traveler, wine tasting is not only a free buzz, but a cultural endeavor and a chance to take in the area’s scenic rolling valleys.
For 52 years, we have published the world’s favorite budget travel guides, written entirely by students and updated every year. With pen and notebook in hand and a few changes of underwear stuffed in our backpacks, we spend months roaming the globe in search of travel bargains.
