As lakes are to Fermanagh, forests are to Co. Tyrone. Moving toward the Sperrin Mountains, which span the border between Tyrone and Derry/Londonderry, well-maintained and protected woodlands precede forest wilds too unruly to contain. Along with its peaceful countryside, the county showcases its rich history of emigration at the sprawling Ulster American Folk Park, an homage to Ulstermen who made their way to America and a must-see for history buffs. Omagh is the county’s commercial center and provides bus access to the rest of Ireland; it’s also the place to pick up supplies before heading to Gortin Glen Forest Park.
