H· Chí Minh City is a shopaholic’s paradise. Shops crowd every block, particularly in Districts 1 and 5—you’re likely to find whatever your heart desires there. The most exciting places to shop are the city’s indoor markets, which sell everything imaginable under one roof. Bargaining, as usual, is the norm here, so be sure to read up on haggling (see “The Art of the Deal,”). Don’t be afraid to make an offer that seems too low. Most markets open between 6 and 7am and close between 6 and 7pm. It shouldn’t be hard to find an entire section of a market devoted to any item you’re looking for—just ask around or inquire at your lodging. The possibilities may well render your choice more difficult than you imagine.

Most of the pricetags you’ll find here are heftier than those at other Vietnamese markets, but still easier on the wallet than at most stores of similar value and focus in your home country.
