The beautiful, diverse region known as the Great Southern earns its title from the scale of the area’s natural offerings, from the sprawling karri and tingle forests on the rugged mountain ranges in the west, to the vast nothingness of the Nullarbor Plain in the east, and the pristine scalloped coastline, which dips in and out of the region’s southern harbours. The South Western Highway links most of the region’s attractions, and Albany functions as an urban hub for the less-populated southern coast. While the Great Southern has been growing in popularity with Australians, offering gourmet food and many boutique wineries, the region’s wonders remain under appreciated by the world at large, allowing visitors to enjoy its natural beauty in relative peace.
