  • Luggage Storage: At the airport (☎089 97 52 13 75). 24hr. staffed storage room in the main hall of the Hauptbahnhof (☎089 13 08 50 36). Lockers in main hall and opposite tracks 16, 24, and 28-36. €3-5 per 24hr. for up to 3 days. Open daily 4am-12:30am.
  • Lost Property: Hauptbahnhof (☎089 13 08 66 64), by track 26. Open M-F 7am-8pm, Sa-Su 8am-6pm.
  • Home Share:
    • Mitwohnzentrale Wolfgang Sigg GmbH/An der Uni, Fendstr. 6 (☎08 93 30 37 40; www.mrliving.de). U3 or U6 to “Munchener Freiheit.” Walk south on Leopoldstr., make a left on Fendstr. At #6, ring buzzer, and go through the corridor to 2nd building. Apartments available by the month. Open M-F 9am-1pm and 2-6pm.
    • City Mitwohnzentrale, Lämmerstr. 6 (☎08 91 94 30; www.mitwohnzentrale.de), by the Arnulfstr. exit of the Hauptbahnhof also rents apartments. Open M-F 9am-1pm and 2-6pm.
    • Studentenwerk, Leopoldstr. 15 (☎089 38 19 60; www.studentenwerk.mhn.de). U3 or U6 to “Giselastr.” Offers inexpensive housing for students and the general public. Thorough English-language website. Open M-F 8am-7pm. They also provide info for students (only) on classes, medical care, and other miscellaneous student needs.
  • Bookstores:
    • Hugendubel, Marienpl. 22 (☎089 48 44 84; www.hugendubel.de). U3 or S1-S8 to “Marienpl.” A 6-story bookstore and cafe offering hundreds of English-language titles. Enjoy books before purchase (rare in Germany) in cabbage-shaped alcoves. Open M-F 9:30am-8pm, Sa 9:30am-8pm.
    • The Munich Readery, Augustenstr. 104 (☎089 12 19 24 03; www.readery.de). U2 to “Theresienstr.” A small, spiffy secondhand bookshop with a bizarre but very good selection. Poster series on the wall of “Famous Literary Cottages.” Open M-F 11am-8pm.
    • Words Worth, Schellingstr. 3 (☎08 92 80 91 41). U3 or U6 to “Universität.” An orderly array of English-language titles in a quiet alcove off the main street. Open M-F 9am-8pm, Sa 10am-4pm.
  • Library: Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Ludwigstr. 16 (☎089 28 63 80; www.bsb-muenchen.de), U6 to “Universität.” A large library with over 8.3 million books, magazines, and newspapers. Reading room open until midnight. Open M-F 9am-7pm, Sa-Su 10am-5pm; closes earlier Aug.-Sept.
  • Visitor Publications: New In the City (www.newinthecity.de). Extremely thorough yearly publication in German and English (€6.90) covering everything from apartment registration to popular nightlife, local universities, and cultural venues. Available at newsstands. SZ Woche, the Süddeutsche Zeitung ’s Th supplement with cultural listings about events in and around Munich (in German).
  • Gay and Lesbian Resources: Gay Services Information (☎089 260 3056), open 7-10pm. Another point of reference is the 24hr. reception of Hotel Deutsche Eiche, Reichenbachstr. 13 (☎089 231 1660).   • Women’s Resources: Kofra Kommunikationszentrum für Frauen, Baaderstr. 30 (☎089 201 0450). Job advice, magazines, lesbian politics, books, and a small cafe. Open M-Th 4-10pm, F 2-6pm. Frauentreffpunkt Neuperlach, Oskar-Maria-Graf-Ring 20-22 (☎089 670 6463; www.frauentreffpunkt-neuperlach.de). Services and venues for women, including an international coffeehouse. English conversation nights; check website or call for dates and times. Lillemor’s Frauenbuchladen, Barer Str. 70 (☎089 272 1205), is a women’s bookstore. Open M-F 10am-6:30pm, Sa 10am-2pm.
  • Disabled Resources: Info Center für Behinderte, Schellingstr. 31 (☎089 211 70; www.vdk.de/bayern), lists Munich’s resources for disabled persons. Open M-Th 9am-noon and 12:30-6pm, F 9am-3pm.
  • Ticket Agencies: To order event tickets by phone call München Ticket (☎0180 54 81 81 81, €0.14 per min.; www.muenchenticket.de). Advance tickets are available at München Ticket’s retail locations in the Rathaus in Marienpl. (open M-F 10am-8pm, Sa 10am-4pm) and at the Hauptbahnhof’s main tourist office. Open M-Sa 10am-6:30pm.
  • Laundromats: SB-Waschcenter, Lindwurmstr. 124. U1 to “Sendlinger Tor.” Wonderfully modern large-capacity washers and dryers. Vending machines with coffee available. Free W-Fi. Wash €3.50 (soap €0.30), dry €0.60 per 10min. Open daily 7am-11pm. Branch at Untersbergstr. 8. U2, U7, or U8 to “Untersbergstrasse.” Same prices and hours.
  • Swimming Pools: The city’s 8 outdoor pools are open May to mid-Sept., but you can enjoy 11 adjacent indoor pools open year round. Pick up Münchener Bäder at the tourist office for full listings (in German). Swim in the wake of the greats at the Olympic Pool (☎089 30 67 22 90) in Olympiapark. U3 to “Olympiazentrum.” Open daily 7am-11pm.
