Although Andalucía is known for its stretches of sunflowers and grazing cattle, the Sierra Nevada mountains that peek above the rolling fields are an equally stunning sight. In the summer, their white slopes give way to green gorges, hidden streams, and the pueblos blancos (white villages) of Las Alpujarras, which blanket the southern slopes in an area known asLa Falda (the skirt). Although the roads are now paved and the towns more touristed, this is a region blessed with a rare sense of tranquility.
