Renfe’s rapidly expanding Cercanías (suburban train) network traverses Madrid and its surroundings, reaching areas inaccessible or impractical by Metro and bus. There are 10 lines, most of which connect directly to metro stations. Timetables are regular and posted at all stations. Fares follow a zone scheme; travel within the city itself costs €1.20, and prices increase up to €5 as you move outward. Trains run 5:30am-11:30pm every day.
For 52 years, we have published the world’s favorite budget travel guides, written entirely by students and updated every year. With pen and notebook in hand and a few changes of underwear stuffed in our backpacks, we spend months roaming the globe in search of travel bargains.
