At the end of the long, lonely drive from the US border, you might be forgiven for thinking that the Transpeninsular Highway would peter out at some remote outpost with barely any connection to the rest of civilization. Instead, it swoops down into huge malls and hotels. Los Cabos—the cape region—is a far cry from the sleepy getaway that many Baja veterans remember from the old days, and it gets further away every year as the coastline fills with more resorts, clubs, and golf courses. Yet even though Los Cabos is crammed with gringos year-round, it’s still possible to escape the crowds and enjoy the southern coast’s stunning natural beauty—spectacular rock formations, surf that rivals that of Hawaii, and, of course, glistening white beaches, which are arguably the most stunning in Baja.
