Hotel singles in France cost about €30 per night, doubles €45. All accredited hotels are ranked on a four-star system by the French government according to factors such as room size, facilities, and plumbing. You’ll typically share a hall bathroom; a private bathroom or a shower with hot water may cost extra. If you want a double with two twin beds instead of one double, ask for une chambre avec deux lits. Some hotels offer pension complet (all meals) and demi pension (no lunch). Smaller guesthouses and pensions are often cheaper than hotels. If you make reservations in writing, indicate your night of arrival and the number of nights you plan to stay. The hotel will send you a confirmation and may request payment for the first night. It is most often easiest to make reservations over the phone or online with a credit card.
Hotels listed in the Accommodations section for each town or city in Let’s Go are generally small, family-run establishments close to sights of interest. Let’s Go doesn’t list budget chains like Hôtels Formule 1, Etaps Hôtel, and Hôtels Première Classe, which can usually be found on the outskirts of town. They typically charge about €30-40 for one- to three-person rooms with sink, TV, hall showers, toilets, and telephones and are sometimes the cheapest—though least charming—option.
