Lisboa Baixa
There are a ton of restaurants along R. dos Correeiros and on R. das Portas de S. Antão, but the revolving menu stands in
nine different languages should tip you off to their tourist orientation. Those with menus in Portuguese tend to serve the
more affordable meals.
- Ristorante-Pizzeria Valentino, R. Jardim do Regedor, 37-45 (☎213 46 17 27). Portugal’s very own Italia in the Pr. do Restauradores. Watch the chefs prepare a variety of dishes in the open kitchen.
Keep your eyes peeled for famous Portuguese soccer players; they’ve been known to frequent Valentino’s. Try the crunchy-crusted
Pizza Caprese (€8.50). Entrees €7-19. Pizzas €6-10. Open daily noon-midnight. AmEx/MC/V.
- Martinho da Arcada, Pr. do Comércio, 3 (☎218 87 92 59). Enjoy the one-of-a-kind ambience at the oldest restaurant in Lisboa, founded in 1782. Guests can read poems on the walls
by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, a regular during his lifetime. Outside seating available. Fish options less expensive
than grilled meats or chicken, though still pricey. Entrees €17-38. Open M-Sa noon-4pm and 7-11pm. AmEx/MC/V.
- Casa-Brasileira, R. Augusta, 267-269 (☎213 46 97 13). A great place to grab some food and a pastry while sightseeing. Cheap sandwiches (€2-3), pizza (€2-4), and fruit smoothies
(€1.25-1.75). Menu of the day (sandwich, fries, and a freshly squeezed smoothie or an ice cold beer) for €4.50. Open daily
7am-1am.
- Ninho Dourado, R. Augusta, 278 (☎213 46 97 39). Situated in the heart of Baixa. Pleasant outdoor seating, a huge menu, and decent prices. Daily special offers a complete
