Bolzano (Bozen) Practical Information

The centro storico lies between the train station and the Talvera River (Talfer Fluss) . All major piazze are within walking distance. Visitors should consider renting bikes, Bolzano’s transportation of choice. Street and piazze names appear in Italian and German, and most maps mark both. From the bus stop, follow Via Alto Adige (Südtirolerstrasse) to Piazza Walther (Waltherplatz) and the duomo. Farther along, Piazza del Grano leads directly to Via Portici (Laubenstrasse) . Here, German and Italian merchants set up shop on opposite sides of the arcade. To reach Ponte Talvera, take V. Portici past Piazza delle Erbe.

Ridotto! Bolzano offers two Museum Cards, which grant holders the ridotto price of entry to the city’s museums and sights. With the purchase of any museum ticket, you receive a booklet of one-time use cards for many of the city’s important museums. Alternatively, pay €2.50 for a card and receive a 20% discount every time you visit one of the city’s surrounding museums and castles. Check the tourist office or participating museums for details.
