Orvieto Restaurants
Orvieto was once known as Oinarea, or the “city where wine flows.” The stream is still rocking steady. Pair a light bottle of Classico with local treats like baked lumachelle (snail-shaped buns with ham and cheese), tortucce (fried bread dough), or mazzafegate (sweet or salty sausages). Also prevalent are tartufi (truffles), served frequently and at reasonable prices in many dishes—sometimes even grated tableside. The sociable Panini Imbottiti, V. del Duomo 36, sells bottles of Classico from €2. (Open daily 8:30am-9pm. Cash only.)
- Carraro, C. Cavour 101 (☎0763 34 28 70;

(small jar €5) as well as a variety of fresh cured meats, cheeses, and
baked goods. Indulge in wild boar and truffle sausage (€24 per kg) and
award-winning cenerino cheese (€22 per kg). Picnic lunch for under €5, bottles of Orvieto Classico for €8.50. Open M-Tu and Th-Su 7:15am-1:30pm
and 4:30-8:30pm. MC/V.
