Trani is a beautiful city for a stroll, and evening sunsets by the port only add to its allure. Be sure to watch the sunset between the cathedral and the castle. Though deserted during the day , Piazza Teatro lives up to its name with nightly performances and free street shows in summer. Young crowds stick around for the large number of gelaterie, pizzerie, and cool bars. The closest thing to a discoteca in Trani is El Matador, V. Cesare Lambertini 15, off V. Cavour. This high-tech bar transforms its floor into a mini- discoteca on weekend nights with freestyle flair and DJ music. (☎348 92 26 919; www.elmatador.it. Beer €2.50. Mixed drinks €4.50. Shots from €2. Open M-Tu and Th-Su 8am-2pm and 7pm-late.) The Amsterdam-inspired Before XXX, V. Zanardelli 9, drowns out the noise that comes from its entrance on P. Teatro with Saturday night DJs and Sunday happy hour. (☎349 06 25 933; www.myspace.com/beforexxx. Open Tu-Su 8pm-3am.) Oyster bar Il Vecchio e Il Mare keeps the lighthouses company at the far right end of V. S. Marittimi, offering a unique seaside setting than the bars inside the port. Walk in the direction of the Villa Comunale or look for the free ferry service from V. Zanardelli in summer. (☎0883 40 37 94; www.dymmy.it/ilvecchioeilmare. F live music. Beer €3. Mixed drinks €5. The last weekend of July brings the Trani Film Festival, when movies are shown in different historical buildings of the city, like the castle and the Monastero di Colonna.
