Barcelona Barceloneta

Barceloneta is mostly home to expensive seafood restaurants advertising paella menús (especially along Pg. Joan de Borbó). You have to go farther inside the neighborhood for smaller restaurants and grocery stores. There’s a Spar Express on P. Juan de Borbó.

Jai-Ca Bar, C. Ginebra, 13 (☎932 68 32 65), 2 blocks down Pg. Joan de Borbó and 3 blocks toward the beach, on the corner with C. Baluard. Hugely popular tapas bar serving all kinds of small seafood treats and plenty of beer (€1.70) to wash them down. Most tapas €3-6. Open Tu and Su 9am-10:30pm, W-Sa 9am-11:30pm. MC/V.
La Bombeta, C. Maquinista, 3 (☎933 19 94 45). Barceloneta. Walk down Pg. Juan de Borbó (toward the beach) and take a left on C. Maquinista. A retro facade marks this tapas bar, which offers deep-fried bombas and a variety of seafood tapas. Appetizers €3-10. Entrees €9-12. Open M-Tu and Th-Su 9am-11:45pm. Cash only.
Bar Bitacora, C. Balboa, 1 (☎933 19 11 10). Barceloneta. Walk down Pg. Juan de Borbó (towards the beach) and take the 1st left after Ronda del Litoral onto C. Balboa. Loud music and tapas (€4-10) draw young, hungry beachgoers. Open Tu-Su 9am-12am. Cash only.
Can Maño, C. Baluard 12 (☎933193082). Barceloneta. Another busy restaurant serving fresh, simple seafood in a packed dining room. Meat and fish dishes €3-10. Combination plates €6-8. Open M-F 8am-5pm and 8-11pm, Sa 8am-5pm. Cash only.
