Barcelona Poble Nou

Restaurants in Poble Nou are few and far between. Cheap bar-restaurants are scattered inland, but along the beach food tends to be touristy and expensive. The best bet for a post-beach meal (without being sucked into one of the many pricey and barely distinguishable seafood restaurants lining Port Olímpic) is to walk up Rambla de Poble Nou where a line of more affordable restaurants awaits, catering mostly to locals. Better yet, visit a supermarket or grab a bocadillo ahead of time for a beach picnic. If you do find yourself in Poble Nou with a rumbling tummy, however, these are our favorites.

  • Recasens, Rambla del Poblenou, 102 (☎933 008 123). An array of fine wines, cheeses, and fresh produce line the entrance of this gourmet restaurant. Entrees €10-20. Dinner menú €22. Open W 6:30pm-1am, Th-Sa 9-11pm and 11pm-1am. Reservations recommended. MC/V.
  • Agua, Pg. Marítim de la Barceloneta, 30 (☎932 25 12 72; www.grupotragaluz.com), the last building on the ocean side of Pg. Marítim before Barceloneta. Tourists, trendy barceloneses, and GQ business-types enjoy seafood and rice dishes from the beachfront terrace. Vegetarian options. Starters €2.50-12. Entrees €8-20. Wheelchair-accessible. Open M-Th and Su 1-3:45pm and 8-11:30pm, F-Sa 1-4:30pm and 8-12:30am. Reservations highly recommended. AmEx/MC/V.
  • La Fonda del Port Olimpic, Moll de Gregal, 7-9. Ciutadella-Villa Olímpica. Along the left arm of Port Olímpic as you face the sea. If you need to indulge in some beach-side paella (€1O-18), this is the place to do it. The superior seafood draws large crowds. Seafood entrees €17-25. Open daily 12:30pm-1am. AmEx/MC/V.
  • Can Toni, Rambla del Poblenou, 88 (☎933 00 33 17). Poblenou. Join locals for seafood tapas on the terrace (€2.50-10 or 3 for €10). Happy hour. Open Tu-Su 8am-midnight. AmEx/MC/V.
  • Nice Spice, C. Pujades, 20 (☎933 08 95 48; www.restaurantenicespice.com). Poblenou. This small restaurant specializes in tandoori. Delicious lamb, chicken, seafood, and vegetable dishes. Large television next to bar screens Bollywood-esque variety shows. Entrees €7-10. 10% off takeout over €20. Open M and W-Su noon-4pm and 8pm-midnight. MC/V.
