Vall d’Hebron and Horta-Guinardó are not sightseeing meccas. They do, however, have extensive sports facilities and a few nice parks and plaças, almost all of which boast formidable views of the city.
Jardins Del Laberint D’Horta. Once the private grounds of a wealthy marquis, this Neoclassical 17-acre garden was restored by the architect Joaquim M. Casamor i d’Espona. The garden is replete with sculptures of Greek heroes, manicured walkways, a love canal, a cascade, and, of course, the labyrinth. A hot summer afternoon can instantly become a cool, refreshing bit of paradise in this fairy-tale park. (C. dels Germans Desvalts, 1. Mundet, L3. Exit on the right and follow Pg. de Vall d’Hebron, turning left before the Velodróm cycling facility. Jardins are directly behind the Velodróm, up the steep steps. ☎934 28 39 34. Open daily May-Aug. 10am-9pm; Apr. and Sept. 10am-8pm; Mar. and Oct. 10am-7pm; Nov.-Feb. 10am-6pm. €2, under 14 €1.50, under 5 free. Su Free. Tours an additional €2.)
Biblioteca Horta-Can Mariner. This brand new, glass-and-steel library provides a peaceful break from walking the hills of Vall d’Hebron and Horta-Guinardó. The library specializes in books on theater and is filled with 20-somethings (the popular library even has a Facebook page). The library also has free internet and Wi-Fi. (C. del Vent, 1. Horta. From the Metro, walk up C. d’Horta. ☎934 20 82 85. Open M 4pm-11:30pm, Tu 10am-2pm, W 10am-11:30pm, Th 10am-2pm, F 4pm-11:30pm, Sa 10am-2pm. Free.)
