Shark Bay, Western Australia’s popular World Heritage area, was the site of the earliest recorded European landing in Australia. Today, Shark Bay is known for the dolphins at Monkey Mia, tranquil Shell Beach, and the “living fossils” (stromatolites) at Hamelin Pool. The pool is 34km from the North West Coastal Hwy., while Monkey Mia lies beyond Denham towards the end of the peninsula. Shark Bay is a slow-paced destination, where travelers come to relax and enjoy the palms, lovely water, and marine life. The best way to see the area is by car or on a tour, as buses to the area are infrequent.
