Southern Mayo is not often-overlooked, nor is it offensively touristy. Cong can draw crowds, but generally the area seems like a destination between destinations, a place for backpackers to recharge (Westport) and explore (Achill Island) before trekking on. The area itself is rural and quiet, except for the brief moments of summer tourism, and public transport tends to be difficult year-round.
