Barcelona Markets

  • Mercat de Sant Josep/La Boqueria, La Rambla de Sant Josep. Liceu. Come to buy jamón serrano or mussels for dinner, or to ogle the tongues, hearts, and feet of recently slaughtetred critters. The front area of this popular, somewhat touristy market sells delicious and cheap snacks like fresh smoothies. Open M-Sa 8am-10:30pm. Some vendors MC/V, some cash only.
  • Fira del Collectiu d’Artesans d’Alimentació, Pl. del Pi. Liceu. Artisanal food merchants sell organic, locally produced food. Honey, herbed cheeses, and homemade pastries and breads. Open 1st and 3rd F, Sa, and Su of each month 10am-9pm.
Gràcia
  • Mercat de la Llibertat, Pl. de la Llibertat (☎93 415 90 93). Diagonal or one block off Via Augusta from FGC: Gràcia. Originally designed as an open-air market by Berenguer in 1875, this market was covered years later. The wrought iron gates and floral details are particularly impressive, as is the drinking fountain at the front of the market, which bears Gràcia’s shield. Vendors offer everything from fresh eggs to dried fruit. Open M 5-8pm, Tu-Th 8am-2pm and 5-8pm, F 8am-8pm, Sa 7am-3pm. Though some vendors may accept MC/V, it’s a good idea to bring cash.
  • Mercat de L’Abaceria Central, at the intersection of Trav. de Gràcia and C. Torrijos (Fontana or Joanic). This market is conveniently located in the heart of Gràcia . The produce stalls are inside, while outside vendors sell flowers, clothing, and trinkets. Open M-Th 7am-2:30pm and 5:30-8:30pm, F-Sa 6am-3pm and 5-8:30pm. Some vendors MC/V, some cash only.
Poble Sec
  • Mercat Sant Antoni, Ronda Sant Pau/Carrer Comte d’Urgell. Sant Antoni. Larger than downtown’s La Boqueria and less touristed, this open-air market selling fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread, and more makes for an unusually delightful grocery shopping experience. Su from 8am-3pm there is a book market outside of the food market. M-Th and Sa 7am-2:30pm and 5:30-8:30pm, F 7-10:30pm, Closed Su. Some vendors MC/V, some cash only.
Les Corts
  • El Mercat de les Corts, Trav. de les Corts. Les Corts. A large, indoor market selling fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, and more. Open M-W and F-Sa 10am-9pm. Some vendors MC/V, some cash only.
