Slovenia Overview

The first and most prosperous of Yugoslavia’s breakaway republics, tiny Slovenia revels in republicanism, peace, and independence. With a historically westward gaze, Slovenia’s liberal politics and high GDP helped it gain early entry into the European Union, further eroding its weak relationship with Eastern Europe. Fortunately, modernization has not adversely affected the tiny country’s natural beauty and diversity: it is still possible to go skiing, explore Slovenia’s stunning caves, bathe under the Mediterranean sun, and catch an opera—all in a single day.
