Only a few roads and hiking trails wind through the mountain villages of Upper Liechtenstein, where the country’s real beauty lies. The city of Malbun rests in an Alpine valley in the principality’s southeastern corner. Reach Malbun by bus #21 (30min., 2 per hr.). A popular hiking trail (4-5hr.) starts at the chairlift base at the Malbun Zentrum bus stop and follows Fürstin-Gina-Weg along two mountain crests. Be careful on the ridges above Malbun: the paths are narrow and often veer very close to cliffs. (Chairlift open July to mid-Oct. daily 8am-12:15pm and 1:15-4:50pm. 8CHF, students 6CHF; round-trip 13/10CHF.) In winter, skiers take to the slopes on the Sareiserjoch and the Silberhorn. (Chairlift open mid-Dec. to mid-Apr. 9am-4pm. Half-day passes 46CHF, students 35CHF; 1 day 68/55CHF; 2 days 123/98CHF.) Hotel Steg , opposite the Malbun Jorabaoda bus stop, has an indoor pool. (☎00423 263 1181; www.alpenhotel.li. Reception 8am-10pm. Open mid-May to Oct. and mid-Dec. to Apr. Singles 70CHF; doubles 95CHF. AmEx/MC/V.) The Schädler-Shop, between the chairlift and the tourist office, has groceries. (Open M-F 8am-12:30pm and 1:30-5pm, Sa-Su 8am-6pm.) The tourist office is down the street from the Malbun Zentrum bus stop. (☎00423 263 6577; www.malbun.li. Open June-Oct. and mid-Dec. to mid-Apr. M-F 8am-6pm, Sa 9am-5pm, Su 8am-5pm.)
